Audism Ends

I just learned something that is very value to deaf community that had gone through oppression for hundred years. Asleveryday and Audism Free America had a excellent explanation about audism and the history. I understand more about audism now. I do agree with them that audism need be stopped. I had suffered many discriminations in workplace, seeking a job, and society especially some people looked me down as I am misfunction human. I really wish I can go to a rally in Washington DC to support the rally, but money is an issue right now. I believe that they are doing right thing. I support ending audism. So, deaf babies can have a right to learn ASL like hearing babies have. Deaf kids could have advance education with full of encouragement to be successful. I grew up with lack of education and had to fight to get an advance education in my adulthood to be success. Audism was the cause denying deaf children getting an advance education to enter college and universities. Also, deaf people could have a good career easier. If the audism is offically over, they wouldn't feel opressed by the audism. That will help deaf people feel free to choose to be doctor, policitian, lawyer, pilot, and truck driver. They are human being like as hearing people.

Since a year ago, I learned to be courage to use my language to say "thank you" or other signs to let hearing people know that I only use ASL as primary language to communicate. I got more respect from them than saying I can't hear on my ear that made people feel pity for me. I do not need a pity as a deaf person. I am fine with that. I do get frustrated with being deaf person because barriers and ignorant of audism. I am looking forward at positive change in the world in near future after audism ends.

I agree! Audism needs to end NOW. I went through without feeling oppressive in my family until I left to enter adulthood---into college and job. I got very oppressed when I opened my dream of success. I know and I have seen it.

Hi Sharyn

I agree with your article. The practice of audism has to be ended and has to be stopped. We, the Deaf, do not deserve that.

I will be there and I am more than happy to be there on behalf of you.

Hedy, I can understand what you had gone through. We, deaf people, just need to work together and overcome it. Teamwork often are at the best overcoming the obstacles.
