Someone made a vlog and showed the article saying that ASL (American Sign Language) is not a foreign language. I had read the article. That writer had bad opinion about ASL that is real unfortunate. He is not only one who have same opinion about ASL My brother told me that many people say exactly same thing to him. Unfortunately, I do not agree with the writer's statement about ASL based on my experience. I am here to not insult or demand others to change what they think of ASL I am here to encourage others to see it as positive language instead downgrade that language.
I would like to share about my experience in my learning process to write English quite well in years ago. I remember I was taking GED classes in college. I struggled with most important grammar are Has, Have and "If...., I would" that is grammar that I had problem in years ago. I had a excellent tutor and experienced interpreter explained to me that I actually knew that rule because ASL was my first language. She showed me how ASL made the constructive of the grammar that I struggled it in English. I listened carefully and finally I understood it and start to write it. She showed me the comparable of the grammar from ASL into English grammar. At End, I had passed GED with one try and graduated from GED.
I had a old friend who was taking ASL classes in college, she invited me into her classes. I took one in High School back then when I was 17. I had listened what teachers had said about ASL. I had learned a lot more from them about the culture and how ASL structures should be. It is completely different structure, rules, and concept of the language from English's structure and concept of the grammar. However, It can compared between ASL's grammar to English's grammar to understand how to write or use it properly.
However, I like to keep to be open minded with completely different views to learn from other people and try to understand. Some people could feel that way due to bad experience from their friends, families, etc who are deaf who mistreat them. They could be ignorant about it, too. No one can judge them.
Remember, it is only my opinion and express it well and nicely. Feel free to disagree or agree with me and leave comments here. I would like to listen different of the views of others but insult and offensive message is not tolerated in here. I see one, the comment will be removed immediately. Also, I am interested to discuss informative comments instead being corrected by others by grammars and spellings.

Sign is usually 'grammatical differences apart !), an manual mirror of the host country's main language. Regardless what ASL or BSL or ESL users claim there are too many similarities with the host country's main language usage, to be much different. It is 'foreign' in regards to the WAY the language is expressed that's all. What we tend to find these days, is deaf people and pundits are determined to so alter the grammatical and physical expression of the host language as to ID it a a totally separate 'language' in itself. Many changes in BSL in the UK are now isolating older deaf people who don't know the signs used, which are claimed to be acceptable advances in sign use, there was heated debate here in the UK the basic BSL dictionary (A relatively new dictionary), was not even created by the deaf but hearing, and made little sense, talk about creative licence !! totally made up most of it... More smoke does not necessarily mean more fire...
thank you for writing this post
you did a beautiful job expressing your pov and experiences
thank u also for standing strong and tall for ASL
not sure why some folks are so intent on dissing other languages but that is their issue and not ours
we know that the more languages the merrier and everybody is entitled to a fully accessible and natural language
much peace

This is great article, Sharyn. That philly article was pretty disgusting but look at the bright side: My good friend from Philadelphia told me the author will REVISIT the subject after he completes his ASL class (!) first.
R-
Thank you Patti. I stand up what I believe in and know what is right.
R,
That something we look forward to see his changed mind someday to see different of things about ASL. Hopefully it will teach others.
MM,
Thank you giving me the different view about ASL. ASL is not only one who has different grammar than English. I went to Nicaragua, I learned their sign language, too. It is called NSL. The researchers in there had two deaf babies with no language supported. They created new language on their own in 30 years ago. Their language is different than Spanish grammar, too. It included French, Italy, etc... I had talked to french guy one time long time ago. I had hard time to understand their language. It took me a bit learn their language. Think about that, too. I will write about that in future in posts.
Have you read the books about ASL and History? If not, I would recommend you read the book called "the twain shall not meet." It will help you understand where it come from.
